India offer to partner with Sports Link Global Foundation to develop Sports in FCT.

The High Commissioner of India in Nigeria, H.E G. Balasubramanian , has pledged to partner with Sports Link Global Foundation to encourage Sports in Nigeria and FCT in particular.

He made this commitment when the chairman of Sports Link Global Foundation, Dom Tata Nworah(SNR) paid him a courtesy visit in preparation for the upcoming Sports competition in Federal Capital Territory schools.

The High Commissioner recalled that his Commission had always supported sports development in the country.According to him, this was consistent with his country’s belief in the potential of sports as veritable tool for social development and the building of healthy individuals for national development.

He cited the High Commission’s recent hosting of the Chess Federation that went to India and organizing cycling rally as evidence of India’s commitment to sports engagement in the country.

The High commissioner further disclosed that many Nigerian footballers and coaches were already in India participating in the country’s sports.

He revealed that India has robust sports programs namely; “Fit India”,”Mission Life “ and “KHLO” , all aimed at achieving a healthy and productive citizenry.

Balasubramanian, therefore offered to encourage information sharing about Indian Sports schemes in the hope that if they are found compatible, could be adopted into Nigeria’s sports regimen.

The High commissioner said,as a further indication of Indian’s commitment to sports development, a PhD holder in Yoga is attached to the Commission to anchor training in Yoga and therefore invites the general public to take advantage of the free training in Yoga that is available within the facilities of the High Commission.

On the upcoming FCT sports competitions, the High Commissioner promised to host the winners to a reception and will also provide Trophies, books and Prizes for the competition.

Earlier in his speech, Chairman, Sports Link Global Foundation, Mr Dom Tata Nworah informed the High Commissioner of the desire of his foundation to entrench sports as a vital complement to the academic development of students of the country and in the FCT.

To achieve this, he informed the High Commissioner that a well planned sports competition would be organized for learners in the government Primary and secondary schools of the FCT in October and November this year.

According to Mr Nworah, his foundation had organised sports competitions in the past and had enjoyed the partnership of many stakeholders including embassies like Venezuela and Zambia with sponsors from both private and public sectors.

The Chairman explained that he was reaching out to the Indian High Commission because of his understanding of the longstanding bilateral relationship between Nigeria and India dating back to Nigerian pre-independence days.

He disclosed that Sports Link Global Foundation was poised to demonstrate commitment to sports development in Nigeria schools. Towards this end, the chairman said his Foundation had undertaken to construct football pitches in schools and provide sustainable maintenance of the facilities.

Sports Link Global Foundation was incorporated to promote sports in the grassroots and use sports as a means of empowerment of the youths among other aims and objectives.
