Oyo Assembly Impeaches Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.

Embattled Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, has been impeached

The House of Assembly, on Monday at the Plenary session adopted  a motion for his impeachment, after a thourough deliberation on the report of a 7-man investigative panel constituted by the Chief Judge of the State, Munta Abimbola

The House of Assembly had in a petition accused the embattled Deputy Governor of abuse of of office, financial gross misconduct, insubordination, abandonment of office amongst others.

However, Olaniyan approached the Court to stop the impeachment process but the Court in his ruling stated that the Speaker who was a defendant in a suit filed before the Court did not contravene any section of the constitution in his decision to probe the activities of the Deputy Governor and thereby dismissed the case.

Sequel to this development, the Chief Judge went ahead by constituting a 7-man investigative panel, even though the Deputy Governor described the action as illegal and unconstitutional.

It was gathered that Olaniyan failed to appear before the Committee for self defence.

His action, as reliably gathered prompted the submission of the committee reports/findings to the House of Assembly for legislative final decision.

The report, as reliably gathered indicted the Deputy Governor of all the allegations levelled against him by the House of Assembly.

The impeachment, according to the resolution of the House takes immediate effect.

All the 23 PDP lawmakers at the plenary voted in support of the recommendations of the panel.

The House has adjourned sitting to reconvene at 12noon today.
