The Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer Of National Lottery Trust Fund, Bello Maigari has restated the resolve of his Organization to lay a solid foundation for sports development at the grassroots .
He made this commitment when the Chairman, Sports Link Global Foundation, Dominic Tata Nworah (SNR) paid him a courtesy visit preparatory to the commencement of the Ambassador Cup competition scheduled for October/ November, 2023 in the Federal Capital Territory schools.
The Executive Secretary said that National Lottery Trust Fund was set up to promote good causes that include investment in sports, education, health and special projects of national significance including disaster management in the country .
According to him, sports have received serious attention of the Trust Fund within the span of its existence.
He recalled that through the interventions of the Trust Fund, many athletes have been raised in the country who are living productive and fulfilling lives.
Maigari specifically referred to the 2017 nationwide intervention in sports when the Trust Fund intervened , commissioned and presented branded sports equipment to about 3000 schools in the country.
The intervention,the Executive Secretary said,got Nigerian Youths assisted to participate in Youth League games in Argentina .In that game, he said a Nigerian female athlete won a gold medal that earned her a United States scholarship to undertake a course of study.
According to Maigari, Sports generally and soccer in particular have raised notable individuals making them deserving of all the support needed.
He particularly applauded the management of Sports Link Global Foundation for conceiving the Ambassador Cup,saying it deserves to be described as “ground breaking “ for its potential to strengthen partnership and friendship within the diplomatic community.
He therefore gave an assurance that National Lottery Trust Fund will go all the way to support the forthcoming sports competition in the FCT schools.
Earlier in his speech, Dominic Nworah, Chairman, Sports Link Global Foundation told the Executive Secretary that the Trust Fund, noted for Social Transformation, is an attractive partner in helping to use sports to arrest youth restiveness and banish social vices in the society.
Nworah therefore solicited the support of the Trust Fund to make the Ambassador Cup Competition a success.
The Ambassador Cup is one in the line up of sports activities of Sports Link Global Foundation for public primary and post primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory.
It is a biannual Competition that seeks to bring together the entire diplomatic community in Nigeria to promote sports.
This year’s competition is anchored by the India High Commission
