CAC COLLOBORATES WITH COUNCIL TO SANITISE PRACTICE OF FREIGHT FORWARDING

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has pledged to collaborate with the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria to regulate and control the practice of freight forwarding for the growth of the Nigerian economy.

The Registrar General/CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Alhaji Garba Abubakar stated this recently in Abuja while receiving the Registrar/CEO of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Barrister Samuel Nwakohu.

Alhaji Garba Abubakar who noted the huge potential of the sector stressed that the CAC was already operating similar collaboration with other sister Government Agencies in order to set standards for their respective areas of jurisdiction.

The Registrar General therefore said the CAC was ready to jointly sanitize the sector on a workable arrangement to ensure that only fit and proper persons were allowed to operate in the freight forwarding business in line with global best practices.

Speaking earlier, the Registrar/CEO Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Barrister Samuel Nwakohu said the Agency became fully operational in 2009 following the enactment of the CRFFN Act of 2007 and charged with amongst others the responsibility of setting standards, regulating and controlling the freight forwarding in Nigeria.

He however, lamented that some freight forwarders have in addition to operating illegally without registering with the council been frustrating efforts aimed regulating their operations.

Samuel Nwakohu who emphasized the importance of collaborating with the CAC to ensure sanity in the sector, said the council was concerned with clearing of goods for international destinations to and from any country in compliance with local and international laws and regulations.

According to him, freight forwarding was responsible for the custom’s revenue, proper declaration and noted that under declaration of values of goods amounted to economic sabotage while concealing of nature of goods cleared constitute serious breach of National security and safety.
