Lifting 100m Out Of Poverty Achievable, Says Danbatta

The Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers (NIICTE) has conferred the Man of the Year Award on the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof Umar G. Danbatta.

Danbatta is serving his second five-year term at the NCC following the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The NCC boss received the award at the virtual conference organized by the NIICTE which took place on Tuesday.

Dr Omoniyi Ibietan, who announced the award said the CEO of the NCC pushed for great reforms in the telecommunication sector of the country.

In his goodwill speech, Danbatta explained that the digital economy would add to the country’s economy when achieved by 2030.

He said the government would not bend on its plan to improve broadband penetration and promoting strategic collaborations and partnership.

He said the ministry supervising the NCC is willing to embrace emerging technologies including the 5G.

He said considering the tremendous economic growth opportunities the digital economy can offer the country, it is possible to lift 100 million out of poverty by 2030.

He said, “These policies were to further the achievements of the promises of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years made by his Excellency in his June 12 2019 Democracy Day Address.

“The Federal Government expanded the mandate of the Ministry of Communications to address the development of the Nigerian digital economy in line with the economic recovery and growth plan, with the focus of on accelerating growth and social inclusion.”

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness, Engr Otis Anyaeji, received the NIICT Royal Eminence Award of Excellence.

Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, received the Leadership Excellence Award during the virtual conference.
