FG Inaugurates Committee To Tackle Trade Bottlenecks

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo on Thursday tasked the members of the newly inaugurated states trade facilitation centres to tackle administrative bottlenecks to facilitate effective domestic trade and improve the ease of doing business in the country. 

Adebayo who made this call during the inauguration ceremony of the members of the states trade facilitation centres held in Abuja, also noted the importance of the National trade facilitation Committee wherein the state centres emanated.

He said, ‘’it might interest you to know that the work of this committee contributed to the upward movement Nigeria made in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking.

“The importance of your new role is very important as the idea is to achieve more efficient and effective facilitation of domestic trade activities by identifying, reporting, and immediately helping to solve operational, administrative and financial bottlenecks to free the flow of goods and services in your different localities.

‘’In other words, you are serving as the eye of the National Trade Facilitation Committee and by extension the Federal Government in your respective states.”

While enumerating other responsibilities of the newly commissioned states, the minister stated that part of their function was to eliminate multiple taxation of domestic businesses in any form.

“I would like to ask you to take this task seriously and ensure that you are always available to carry cut the work effectively We know your States’ Chief Executives are fully committed to this cause and will give you the necessary support to excel In this function, National interest is the main goal. He added

He further stated that the federal government through his ministry remains committed to facilitating trade by ensuring that all bottlenecks are adequately addressed.
