UK Government Team Visits DG NADDC To Support EVs In Nigeria

The United Kingdom Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) team has visited the Director General/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, on a mission to Nigeria to engage with stakeholders working towards Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Climate Change Act, and Energy Transition Plan implementation.

The NADDC is championing the development and utilization of carbonless Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Autogas programme in Nigeria.

These projects are of interest to UK PACT Team and their visit to the NADDC is part of their stakeholders consultative mission to the country.

Members of the team are Joseph Tyrrell, Senior UK International Climate Finance Adviser, Abdulmutalib Yussuff, UK PACT Programme Lead, and Simona Majernikova, UK PACT Skill share Lead.

The NADDC had reaffirmed its commitment to the building of locally made environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs) in Nigeria.

Jelani Aliyu, director-general of the NADDC, had stated the agency’s goal is to increase the country’s electric vehicle production capacity.

He said the agency will promote the provision of more electric vehicles that are appropriate for Nigerian conditions, allowing the country to meet its Paris Accord and 2060 net-zero commitments, lowering harmful gas emissions from vehicles.
