As the presidential primary election of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, get underway in Abuja, Senate President and APC’s consensus presidential candidate, Ahmad Lawan, is on the cusp of history.
Lawan is steadily, and amid intra-party ruckus over his announcement on Monday by the party’s national chairman, inching closer to his political destiny: of securing the consequential presidential annointment as the party’s consensus candidate.
Adamu will at 3pm today (Tuesday) formally present Lawan to President Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
The outcome of the crucial presentation meeting will determine the shape and texture of the party’s presidential primary poll.
Once President Buhari puts his significant imprimatur on Lawan’s candidature and officially communicates the same to the party leadership, there is bound to be quick alignment and realignment of political forces in support of the President’s position.
Except the President’s disposition to Lawan consensus option strikes a negative note, he (Lawan) who has been in the National Assembly since 1999 will be home and dry.
He will assume the toga of “a presidential project” to be strategically packaged and delivered for positive result.
The President holds all the aces in the unfolding presidential succession politics in the APC.
Recall that he had told the governors on the party platform to support him in choosing his successor.
He will present whoever eventually gets his annointment to the governors for their strategic support.
None of the governors will be disposed to daring the President once he has taken a decision on the person he wants to succeed him as president on the APC platform.
