Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has finally reacted publicly to the recent interview granted by the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, to ARISE TV.
Wike, who was the first runner-up at the party’s presidential primaries, held in Abuja a few weeks ago, had indicated that he would respond to the interview in good time.
He said at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday that Atiku told many lies during his television interview.
“Thereafter he (Atiku Abubakar) appeared on Arise Television. See the statements he made. So many lies were told,” Wike told newsmen.
Responding to a question on why Atiku picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State over Wike, contrary to stakeholders’ preference, the flagbearer had refuted claims that he acted against the will of these stakeholders, particularly some Governors.
He said he did not pick Wike because he wanted a VP that he could work with amicably.
“The committee that was set up at my own instance deliberated. They recommended three names because they knew it was my prerogative to pick anyone of the three. There was actually no vote.
“Governor Ortom himself chaired that committee. He knew that there was no vote and I have the report of that committee. The committee recommended three people and I picked one. I did not go out of that recommendation. So, I think people should be fair to me and should also state the fact,” Atiku had said.
