Our new policy on waste disposal yielding great result – Gov Otu

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has expressed delight over the positive result being yielded by his administration’s new policy on waste disposal.

In his determination to restore the green and clean status of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Gov Otu had issued a new guideline on refuse disposal.

According to the new guideline earlier released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, in which the governor called on residents to adhere to, all refuse disposal must be carried out between the hours of 6pm and 10pm daily to give room for evacuators who are expected to effect the final clearance of such waste from dumpsters to designated disposal points.

Prince Otu on his official facebook page said: “Our new policy on waste disposal is yielding great result and gradually we will reclaim the GREEN and CLEAN status of our state with your cooperation.

“We will continue to evacuate all waste before the dawn of the new day, so that our people will wake (up) to a clean state, every day.

“Our team will continue to enforce that refuse is disposed by residents between the hours of 6pm – 10pm daily.

“The new regulated waste disposal routine, if strictly adhered to, will allow for effective and efficient monitoring of indiscriminate refuse disposal by some residents as well as ensure robust evacuation by relevant government agencies.

“Let’s build the Cross River of our dream.”

He had also earlier reminded residents of the need to cooperate with relevant government agencies in maintaining the aesthetics of the city center as well as imbibe refuse evacuation practices that will avert impending flood disasters as forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), while warning the general public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse as all defaulters no matter how highly placed will be prosecuted according to the environmental law of the State.
