Former Senate Leader and ex-Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has hailed the appointments of Senator George Akume and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President respectively.
The appointments of Akume and Gbajabiamila by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were disclosed in a statement issued by the State House Director of Information, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye on Friday.
Describing their appointments as well-deserved, Ndoma-Egba in a congratulatory message to the duo, said they are coming into the new offices with enormous wealth of experience and competence.
Noting further that both of them are patriotic Nigerians eminently qualified and fit for the positions, the erstwhile Senate Leader urged them to endeavor to be “ambassadors of the National Assembly” as former parliamentarians that played critical leadership roles in the Parliament.
“I congratulate Senator George Akume and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on their well-deserved appointments as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chief of Staff (CoS) to Mr. President (Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu).
“Both of them (Akume and Gbajabiamila) should be Ambassadors of the National Assembly. And working with a President and Vice President (Senator Kashim Shettima) who are themselves alumni of the Legislature, we expect a better and more efficient working relationship between the Executive and Legislative Arms of Government.
“Senator Akume comes with a huge bag of experience at every level of the executive and Senate leadership as Minority Leader and Minister, while Gbajabiamila comes with remarkable experience of long membership and leadership of the House of Representatives,” Ndoma-Egba said.
Gbajabiamila, a lawyer, who is currently the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been in the Green Chamber for twenty years. He had held the position of House minority leader and majority leader before becoming Speaker in 2019.
Akume, a former Senate Minority Leader, was the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs in the immediate past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He was Governor of Benue State between 1999 and 2007 and in the Senate for three terms.
