Multiple Taxation, Poor Power Supply Affecting Manufacturing Output—-MAN

Ebuka Daniel

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Edo/Delta chapter, has lamented the multiple taxation on its members by the Delta State government.
The chairman of the association, Okwara Udensi, spoke on Wednesday when he led its exco on a courtesy visit to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State in Asaba.

He said, “We are aware of the harmonisation of the levies of the different agencies of state government. However, there are ambiguities on the demand notices issued by the board of Internal Revenue to our members.

“We are requested for further clarification and some level of state control over the hirelings of some local government personnel as they waylay our members for payment of unpublished and unpublicised levies and rates.

“The state government should ensure the outright removal of touts and area boys who rule the major roads in the state.”

Udensi said one of the challenges faced by the manufactures was lack of steady power supply. He urged the Delta State government to create industrial clusters and provide Independent Power Plants to serve each cluster.
