Sustainable Development of Yagbaland requires inclusive, transparent and equitable representation- Yagba Concerned Citizens

Participatory democracy and active participation in the political process are essential for the realization of Yagba’s developmental goals.

This was the kernel of the 2-day virtual summit on Leadership, Security and political matters concerning the people of Yagbaland in Kogi State held recently.

The summit, which was convened under the auspices of Yagba Concerrned Citizens led by Chief Olure Peter Olawale, drew participants from different interests groups and academia.

In the communique issued at the end of the summit, it was recommended that there should be a leadership and mentoring program for emerging leaders.

The summit also called for the “promotion of the Yagba Traditional Council under the jurisdiction of Oba Yagba , which would rotate amongst the three chairmen of the Traditional councils of the three local government areas”

It called for the establishment of an annual Yagba Cultural Day where all cultures in Yagbaland will be showcased globally.

On security, the summit called for a concerted effort to bring together all security agencies and traditional rulers under each local government chairmen in Yagba Federal Constituency to formulate an intelligence-driven security framework to address the spate of kidnappings

The summit emphasized that politics and development are inseparable in modern society. To drive the political development of Yagbaland,it called for a zoning arrangement for the nomination of candidates for the house of representatives to prevent what it called “monopolization “ of the position.

Hon.Abejide

It demanded for the implementation of an educational program on zoning, power sharing, rotation of power and quota systems as practiced at the federal and party levels.

The resource persons at the summit include Hon. Abidemi Adeyemi, Director of Finance at the Nigeria Niger Basin , Dr Lawrence Adenipekun of the department of Political Science, Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State and Chief Peter Olure Olawale, CEO of Five Os Security Nigeria Limited.
