Nigeria, in the last one week, that ended 18 July 2021, recorded 966 cases of COVID-19, being the highest in the last 17 weeks.

The number of confirmed cases has continually been on the increase since the recent detection of cases with the Delta variant in Nigeria.

On the other hand, out-bound international travellers were 5,629 of which 126 tested positive.

Lagos state with 756 confirmed cases topped the list of states with confirmed cases, followed by Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Ogun, FCT with 49, 38, 24 23 and 20 cases respectively.

Others were, Ondo (14), Gombe (13), Ekiti (13), Edo(4), Ekiti (4), Kastina (2), Nasarawa (1) and Bayelsa (1).

NCDC had in recent times called for a collective responsibility by leaders and members of the public in enforcing the public health measures.

It said, “Given this risk, we urge business owners, leaders in schools, workplaces, religious centres, markets and other public settings to ensure enforcement of the public health measures.

“The approved Antigen-based Rapid Diagnostic Test kits can be used to rapidly detect cases in settings such as workplaces and camps.

“We encourage leaders to take advantage of this so that COVID 19 cases are detected early and controlled before spread.

“There is a window of opportunity to prevent a surge in COVlD-19 cases. We appeal to all Nigerians to take responsibility to protect yourself, your loved ones and our country.”
