The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal University of Lokoja (FUL) and former Majority Leader of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on the outcome of the just concluded Ondo State governorship election which went in his favour.
Aiyedatiwa of All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the guber election held on Saturday after polling the highest number of votes among the candidates of about 17 political parties that participated in the contest.
According to the result announced in Akure by INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor (VC) of FUL, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, Governor Aiyedatiwa of APC carried the day with a total of 366,781 votes while his closest rival Mr. Agboola Ajayi of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 117,845 votes.
Ndoma-Egba described Aiyedatiwa’s landslide victory in the election as a reflection of the love Ondo people have for him and their belief in his capacity to offer good governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to their doorsteps.
He averred that the people were impressed and pleased with the way Aiyedatiwa has built on the legacy of his late boss and predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to fast track economic growth and development in the state for the good of the citizens.
The ex-Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who heads the Advisory Board of Start-Rite International School, Abuja, in a statement, remarked: “I congratulate His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on his overwhelming triumph at the polls in the just concluded Ondo State gubernatorial election where the electorate in the state wholeheartedly gave him the mandate to carry on as their governor.
“His (Aiyedatiwa’s) victory was foretold having built on the legacy of his illustrious predecessor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu of blessed memory. His resounding victory speaks not only of the trust the people have in him but also the level of their expectations from him. He must therefore make their lives noticeably better as he gets set to begin his fresh mandate in February 2025.
“They came out en masse and spoke very loudly for him to continue to serve them as could be seen in the result of the election. He should endeavour to justify the confidence the people have reposed in him by not disappointing them. I wish him well!”
Ndoma-Eagba, an APC Chieftain from Cross River State, applauded INEC, the entire residents of Ondo State and other stakeholders for the proper conduct of the election which has been widely acknowledged as peaceful, transparent, free and fair.
Aiyedatiwa, who was a member of the NDDC Board when Ndoma-Egba was the Chairman, became acting governor of Ondo State after his principal, Akeredolu, took ill. He was sworn in as governor to complete Akeredolu’s tenure.after his death and subsequently secured APC ticket for the 2024 Ondo governorship election.
