Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo Self-isolates After COVID-19 Exposure

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has embarked on a 14-day self-isolation after an encounter with a person within his close circle tested positive for coronavirus.

the Information Minister, Kojo Nkrumah, in a statement on Saturday, July 4, said Akufo-Addo’s move was in compliance with COVID-19 protocols and the advice of doctors, following exposure to “at least one person within his close circle tested positive for Covid-19.”

According to the statement, “on the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020, taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self- isolation measure in compliance with Covid-19 protocols.

It further states that the president “has, as at today, tested negative.”

The Commerce Africa reports that last week, Carlos Ahenkorah, the Deputy Minister for Trades and Industry resigned his after breaching Covid-19 protocols.

Ghana, as of Saturday, had a total of 19,388 coronavirus cases with 14,330 recoveries/discharges. A total of 117 people, including renowned medical professionals and government appointees, have died from the virus.
