Fuel Subsidy Removal: Tinubu meet Emiefele and Kyari

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met behind closed doors with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), Godwin Emefiele and the Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPCL), in an apparent effort to address the fallout of fuel subsidy removal.

The meeting was his first official assignment in the Presidential Villa, starting with the critical sectors, following the return of fuel queues, as marketers, react to the fuel subsidy removal.

Present at the meeting were the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Wale Edun, Dele Alake and James Faleke. Permanent secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar accompanied the Vice-president to the meeting.

The President had at his inauguration speech on Monday, announced the removal of fuel subsidy and his resolve to reduce high interest rates, which he described as dis- incentives to attracting investments.

The announcements has led to the return of fuel queues across the country, despite assurances by the NNPCL of sufficient supply of the commodity.

The meeting with the CBN boss and NNPC Managing Director is not unexpected given the furore generated by the policy initiatives and implementation of the two bodies in the last administration.
