FEC Approves N8.1bn for FERMA to Repair 10 Roads

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a total of N8.1bn for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to carry out emergency repairs of 10 roads across the country.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of the council’s last meeting for the year presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the minister, states where the roads are located include Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Nasarawa, Lagos, Ogun, Kogi, Edo, Yobe, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory.

Fashola said, “The Ministry of Works and Housing presented a memorandum on behalf of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.

“This was for general repairs, emergency repairs and maintenance of roads and critical intervention on 10 roads in different parts of Nigeria.

“The total sum of these contracts is N8, 180,948,137.50 and council approved this memorandum on behalf of FERMA.”

The Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, on his part, said FEC approved over N4.7bn for the power sector.

One of the contracts, he said, was the N88.046m revised estimated total cost in the contract of construction of infrastructure at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria’s permanent site in Abuja.

The second approval, according to the minister, is the extension of the contract time for the consultancy service in the project management and supervision of the ongoing construction of Zungeru power project in the sum of $3.5m and N3.4bn equivalent to N4.7bn.

The Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello, said the council approved contracts for water treatment projects and roads within the territory to the tune of N31,630,221,349.
