Covid-19 Cases Approach 10.7M Worldwide

The number of people infected with the coronavirus across the world rose towards 10.7 million, of which around 516 thousand have died.

In the US, the epicenter of the disease, the number of infections rose by more than 50 thousand in the last 24 hours, the most since the epidemic began according to Johns Hopkins.

Brazil, the second-worst affected country in the world reported 46,712 new cases, the third-biggest rise since the beginning of the outbreak; and India added more 19,428 infections.

Elsewhere, Peru and Mexico added around 6 thousand cases, while Chile and Iran around 2.5 thousand.

In Europe, the UK reported less than 1 thousand new infections for the fifth straight day, Spain 388 and Italy 182.

In Africa, Nigeria reported 26,484 cases while figures reach 159,333 and 17,741 in South Africa and Ghana respectively.
