Ahmed, Trade Ministry Deputy Director Becomes NIM Fellow

The Deputy Director, Commodities and Export Department in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Umar Goni Iya Ahmed has become a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Management.

Ahmed was born in Kaduna on 16th October, 1962 to the family of Late Mallam Iya Ahmed.

His father was also a recipient of the OBE in 1963 by Queen Elizabeth II. 

He obtained HND and PGD in Marketing from the Kaduna Polytechnic in 1989 & 2004 and also Master Degree (MBA), with specialization in Marketing from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

 He did his one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at NAL Merchant Bank in Kaduna between 1989/1990.

He is currently engaged in a Phd Business Administration program in Nasarawa State University (in-view) and a fellow of both Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) Chartered and Chartered Institute of Export and Commodity Brokers of Nigeria. 

He is also a member of National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and Member, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Mumbai, India, and attended many International courses over time.

Ahmed has served as a board member of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa State from 2018-2020, representing the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

He also served as the Technical Assistant to the former Permanent Secretary in 2016-2018. 

He has also served in Presidential Committees and many Inter-Ministerial Committee within 18years. 

He is a committed technocrat and has vast experience, having travelled to about 40 Countries.

Presently, he is a board member of Nigeria Tourism Development Board and was recently appointed an alternate Board Member of Nigeria Export Import Bank (NEXIM) representing Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. 

Mr. Umar Goni in 2019 was elected Executive Director of Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) with headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands representing Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’ivoire, Senegal, Mali and The Gambia to date. 

He is a recipient of Presidential Civil Service merit award given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on 5th August, 2016 for his commitment and dedication to service.
